Places (Here and There)

This is Banco Nacional. One of the state owned banks in Costa Rica. This is the main branch in San Pedro. When open an armed guard stands our front with what looks like an R-4.

The bandstand at Parque San Pedro. (Actually across the street from the above bank.) On weekends sometimes there is live music here. On weekdays, bums sleep out of the rain.

Typical Costa Rican sidewalk. this one is actually better than most.

Another government owned bank.

So have you heard what's the deal about the sidewalks? They don't have enough money to fix them or just too expensive to do, no matter how much money the city has? But I guess if nobody fusses about them, why fix them?

In typical Costa Rican fashion the money that is allocated to fix the sidewalks is probably going into a secret retirement fund for the head of public works. I am sure he wants to buy a nice house in Escazu when he retires.
