Traditional Costa Rican Lunch

It is called a Casado. It is usually served with rice, black beans, fried plantains, a salad and a meat usually either pork, fish, chicken or beef. The best place to find this rather filling, delicious and best of all cheap meal is in one of your neighborhood "Sodas" These Sodas are very small restaurants some no more than permanently parked roach coaches with a tin awning and some tables. A casado for lunch with drink will set you back about 1500-2000 colones or about $2.50 to $3.00 depending on where you buy it. At my favorite place Soda San Bosco, you are looking at 1500 colones for a darn good lunch.

Not sure when you plan to "Jump the Broom" But from now until about Dec is the slow season, tourist wise. You will get a better deal. Just bring your umbrella. The mornings are sunny but it rains almost every afternoon.
